1 to 3 mbar absolute. Low pressure is what lets sparge steam lift volatile off-flavors out of the oil at 230-260°C without cooking it. Vacuum comes from a steam ejector or a mechanical pump: ejectors are simple where steam is cheap, mechanical pumps where it is not. Weak vacuum is the usual cause of flavor carryover.
Stripping steam runs 0.5-2.0% of oil by weight, alongside the heat needed to hold temperature. Dosing higher strips faster but costs more steam and drags more distillate out with it, so the balance point differs by oil. We state the consumption curve for your oil and capacity so costing is honest.
Yes, it is a by-product, not waste. The condensed volatiles carry tocopherols and sterols, which trade at real prices, so the condensate system should be built for recovery from day one. Plants that send it down the drain send revenue with it. Distillate recovery is included in scope wherever the economics justify it.
Peroxide value comes back below 0.5 meq/kg, because peroxides are destroyed at deodorizing temperature, and flavor and color should sit at your spec. Watch peroxide in storage afterward: it rebuilds whenever oil meets air or light. Deodorizing resets the clock; your packaging and headspace decide how long it stays reset.
A 5 t/day batch unit suits small specialty refineries; the 50 t/day semi-continuous packed column handles mid-scale with frequent grade changes; the 200 t/day continuous multi-stage unit fits one or two oils at high volume. Semi-continuous wins on changeovers, continuous on volume. We match the style to your product slate.
