FAQ
Mechanical pressing leaves 5-10% oil in the cake no matter how hard you squeeze. Solvent extraction takes residual oil below 1%, and at 30 to 1,000 t/day of seed that difference is the profit. The usual split: pressing for smaller plants and high-oil seeds, extraction for scale and low-oil seeds like soybean and rice bran.
The system runs food-grade n-hexane in a closed loop, recycled at 95%+ efficiency, under full ATEX compliance: vapor recovery, nitrogen blanketing, and continuous gas monitoring. The engineering assumption is that vapor will occur and must be captured, never vented. Those safety systems ship standard, and they are what your inspectors will focus on.
Residual oil in the meal drops to 0.5-1.0%, and the desolventized meal sells as high-protein animal feed, often half the revenue of a soybean plant. Plan meal handling and its sales channel with the same seriousness as the oil side, because a project sized only on oil leaves money unpriced.
Soybean is the number one application, followed by rapeseed, cottonseed, sunflower, and rice bran, usually after mechanical pressing removes the easy oil.
