Inline quality control has five standard stations. Esper integrates them at HACCP-critical points with reject handlers and audit-trail logging.
| Station | Catches | Typical Position | Standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal detector (MTD) | Fe/non-Fe/SS fragments | After last metal-risk step; before packing | Fe 1.5–2.0 mm, SS 2.0–2.5 mm at belt center |
| X-ray (XRY) | Metal + glass, stone, dense plastic, missing items | Packed product, esp. metallized film where MTD blinds | Detects through metallized packaging |
| Checkweigher (CWS) | Under/overweight | Immediately after filling | ±0.5–2 g dynamic; 3-zone reject |
| Vision (VIS) | Label presence, seal integrity, fill level, color | After capping/sealing | Camera + lighting matched to package finish |
| Color sorter (CLS) | Foreign color objects in bulk | Bulk product streams (rice, nuts, frozen veg) | Chute or belt type by throughput |
Metal detection is usually CCP 1 in HACCP plans; checkweigher supports net-content compliance; X-ray increasingly replaces MTD where packaging contains foil. The rule: every reject event logged, every hour a test card/worest-case sample through the machine, records kept 12+ months. We configure auto-reject bins with event logs exportable to your QMS.
MTD is blinded by metallized film — X-ray is the correct station there; MTD fine for clear film.
±0.5–2 g dynamic depending on package weight and belt speed; always verified with your actual product at commissioning.
Yes — Modbus/OPC-UA outputs standard; reject logs export CSV for audit trails.
Start of shift, hourly, and after any stoppage — standard audit expectation; auto-reminder configurable.
Checkweighers to 300 ppm; X-ray to 120 ppm; vision to 400 ppm depending on inspection complexity.
Standalone modules with matched conveyors; drop-in between your existing units.
